What is an Angel?

What is an Angel?

St. Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) wrote: “Angels transcend every religion, every philosophy, and every creed.  In fact angels have no religion as we know it.  Their existence precedes every religious system that has existed on earth.”

Angels are Pure Love Energy.  This is the very same energy as that of our Creator.  They are caring, intelligent guides with a desire to assist all those who ask.  You may not believe in them, but they believe in you.  Believing in them (logically) is the best way to gain their assistance in your life.  After all, why would you follow the guidance of someone that you don’t believe in?

Humans perceive their world through their five basic senses.  We view our world through sight, sound, smell, taste and touch.  Angels don’t have these senses.  Instead, they live in a state of ‘knowing’ rather than in a state of ‘perceiving’.  They exist in a state of consciousness in which all that is needed to be understood is simply known.  It is this same form of knowing that allows humans to communicate with the angels.  An example of this in the everyday life of a human is when you think of someone and then unexpectedly hear from them or run into them.  On some level you knew that you would hear from or see the person.  Or when the phone rings and before you check the caller id, you already know who is calling.

The realm in which the Angels reside is a realm of consciousness that is not encumbered by ego and is not attached to a physical body.  This is the same realm into which we pass when we leave our physical body.  At that time, we too exist in a state of simply knowing.  When we detach from the physical body, it is our soul that transcends into the realm of consciousness, or as some call it; heaven.  Our soul is the essence, the substance, the energy of God.  It is this same energy that is the Angels, the Archangels, the Ascended Masters, and the Saints and so on.  Some of us have been taught that we were created in God’s image.  This isn’t an entirely accurate view, because we are our soul and our soul is the exact same energy that is our creator.

You may find yourself wondering why, if our soul is God’s energy; we have such a difficult time living in peace.  Ego is the answer to this.  We perceive that we know best, we perceive that we are the best; we perceive that it is correct for us to force our understanding on others and we judge.  That perception comes to us through ego, and that perception causes many troubles.

This doesn’t mean that we should forget ego, after all we are human and part of the human experience is to have an ego.  However, if we are trying to live a more spiritual existence, than we will need to push ego aside at times and let our soul take the reins.  This is likely the true meaning of the phrase “Let go and Let God”.

While in human form, the closest that we come to the realm of consciousness known to the Angels is when we are in a state of sleep.  You will notice that often times when dreaming, we understand perfectly what is being said but that nothing is being said.  We simply know what is being communicated to us and by us.  We also experience glimpses of this when we meditate and connect to the Angelic realm, or when we are hypnotized or connect to our higher self.  It is in reaching up, so to speak that we are able to experience this sense of knowing.

When we connect to the Angelic realm, we sometimes will experience a knowing.  We also can experience sound, touch, sight, thoughts and even smell.  These are all tools used by the Angelic realm to communicate with us in a manner that is comfortable for us and can be understood by us.
